Laser Liposuction-how it Works and Why the Laser Assisted Technique Improves Fat Removal, Skin Tightening, and Liposculpture

You are very lucky if you have waited until now to consider having liposuction, or liposculpture body contouring. The new laser liposuction techniques are a vast improvement over traditional methods. The new laser technology melts fat and tightens skin resulting in a much gentler liposculpture procedure and minimal loose hanging skin after liposuction.

Whether you have a double chin, tummy fat after childbirth, saddle bags, spare tire, or just little problem areas around the hips or thighs, the new laser assisted liposculpture and laser body contouring techniques may be what you are looking for.

Not all of the machines in use are the same. Some laser wavelengths, such as the 924nm and 924/975nm work much better than others. You need to understand which technology is best if you are considering laser liposuction.

Liposuction is the most commonly performed plastic surgery operation.
-Traditional liposuction is done by inserting a metal tube called a cannula beneath the skin into fat containing areas of the body. High pressure suction is applied and fat is suctioned out from under the skin. While the procedure works well, it is traumatic as the suction pulls out not only fat but also some of the connective tissue which holds the skin tight to the body. There are several problems which can occur after liposuction:

]]>

-During laser assisted liposuction, a very small laser fiber is inserted beneath the skin. Heat from the laser melts the fat into a thin liquid. The liquid fat is then more easily removed with very small cannulas usually only2-3 millimeters in diameter. The heat form the laser also tightens the skin, and closes many blood vessels, thus less bleeding.

There are several different machines available using several different laser wavelengths-the 924nm, combined 924/975nm, the 1064nm, and the 1308nm are the most popular.

I prefer the 924nm and combination 924/975nm laser because the 924nm is very selectively absorbed by fat tissue. The 924nm liquefies 3 times as much fat as some of the other wavelengths and is also more strongly absorbed by blood vessels, which helps reduce bleeding and bruising.
The 924nm and combined 924/975nm laser is used by the SlimLipo™ laser liposuction machine made by Palomar Medical™.

If you are healthy, do not smoke, and have extra fat beneath your chin, around your tummy, on your hips, thighs, arms or knees, and are relatively fit and not obese, then you are likely an excellent candidate for laser liposuction. The younger you are the better your skin tightening will be after laser liposuction. I have, however, seen good skin tightening after laser liposuction in a 70 year old person-see photo below:

If you are obese and significantly over weight, you should lose weight first before liposuction.

SmartLipo – smart laser liposuction

Even a perfect BMI is not tantamount to a slim figure. Sometimes the rate stays within the normal range but the excessive fat is accumulated in one part of the body, creating the overweight impression. The fatty tissue deposits do not respond to exercise and make the figure disproportionate.

If the shape of the figure cannot be improved in the gym, swimming pool, by means of vibrating belts, or by a harsh diet, it may be worthwhile to think over the liposuction. The latest method of removing excessive fat – SmartLipo – guarantees a perfect body contour you have always dreamt about.

The creators of SmartLipo were in search of a solution that would help to remove fat deposits without any danger for patient’s health from parts of the body that cannot be treated by means of a standard liposuction, for example from cheeks or back. This method is also ideal for waist, tights, or buttocks. Lipo laser generates light energy emitted in short impulses, which prevents bleedings. The procedure is fully safe and non-invasive.

The very SmartLipo procedure lasts, depending on the treated part of the body, from 10 to 50 minutes. Thanks to the thin cannula (of a 1mm diameter), the period of patient’s recovery lasts, on average, 2 days. After this period, the patient can return to daily routine. The patient has to wear special bandage for 10 days, which will help to bring back the skin to a normal condition. All marks left by the procedure should disappear already after 2 – 3 months. It is worth mentioning that SmartLipo helps fighting with the nightmare of millions of women around the world – the cellulite.

‘Our clients pay attention to the skin match effect’, says Igor Kubiak, co-owner of MTA Poland, medical tourism agency from Poland. ‘SmartLipo removes excessive fat deposits evenly, which makes skin perfectly soft and firm. Importantly, in most cases a single procedure performed is sufficient to achieve the desired effect. It is really a smart laser device’, he adds.

What Improvements do you get from Laser Liposuction?

liposuction surgery

Liposuction surgery has come a long way since it was invented more than three decades ago. The latest techniques for body contouring and excess fat removal involve the use of laser energy to melt fat cells in the targeted area. A minimally invasive procedure for hi-definition body sculpting, laser liposuction offers many improvements over other methods.

Laser is a great way to remove excess fat from various areas of the body such as the face, neck, chin, back, abdomen, waist, thighs, hips, knees, ankles, and buttocks. A slim cannula with tiny laser fibers is inserted in the area to be treated. Laser energy melts the fat which is then easily suctioned off. SmartLipo TriplexTM, the latest device, uses 1440, 1064 and 1320 nm wavelengths for superior results. The improvements that the new laser-assisted modality offers are many:

It is useful for the removal of small pockets of fat and works well on even very sensitive and delicate areas like the face, and fibrotic areas like the male breast and flanks.
Performed as an outpatient procedure and uses local anesthesia as compared to general anesthesia in conventional liposuction techniques. As the patient is awake, it is easier for the surgeon to perform post-surgery evaluation and correction.
The lasers effectively target and liquefy the adipose tissues which contain the fat cells, allowing the removal of larger volumes of fat.
The trauma to the surrounding tissues and skin are minimal with laser liposuction treatment.
The laser coagulates the blood vessels. So, there is less bleeding, less bruising and less pain.
No loose skin as in traditional liposuction. Laser liposuction is designed to promote skin tightening and stimulate the production of collagen.
There is no scarring as the incisions are tiny and do not require sutures. They heal within weeks of the procedure.
As the procedure is less traumatic for the patient, it ensures less downtime. The patient is up and about immediately following the procedure, and back to work in a couple of days.
Safety is ensured as the latest laser liposuction modalities like SmartLipo Triplex feature SmartSense with ThermaGuide for reliable, controlled energy delivery. SmartSense shuts down the laser automatically when the handpiece is moved above a certain speed and this helps avoid heat-induced skin damage.

Laser liposuction surgery works best for men and women who are close to their ideal weight and want to get rid excess fat for a contoured face or figure. It is important to have realistic expectations about the results.

To get all the improvements that laser liposuction offers, find an experienced plastic surgeon using the latest modalities and techniques. Make sure that the plastic surgery center is AAAASF-accredited. This would ensure safe and effective liposuction treatment in a congenial environment.

Is Laser Hair Removal Less Invasive than Waxing; Does it Last Longer?

Humans, like any other mammals, have hair that grows all over their bodies. For some people the hair is less obvious or grows more sparsely, but many men and women alike struggle with excessive hair growth which can be unattractive or a downright nuisance. Some individuals struggle with unwanted hair growth from the time they are adolescents, and the daily routine of shaving or weekly waxing can feel like more trouble than it is worth.

Professional hair removal services available through cosmetic surgeons are less time-consuming, and allow you to go for longer periods of time between treatments. But even professional waxing can have its pitfalls. Another, more technologically advanced option is laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal has become popular in recent years particularly for individuals who have had negative reactions to waxing or who are looking for a more permanent solution to their hairy areas.

Waxing vs. Lasers: Invasiveness

]]>

Both waxing and laser hair removal have been describe as non-invasive procedures. This means that nothing is inserted under the skin to remove the hairs. It does not mean that there may not be slight discomfort involved in either procedure. Some patients feel that waxing is more painful because the hair is torn out of the skin across a larger area. Laser hair removal covers about an inch of skin at a time, and doesn’t pull the hair out, but causes it to fall out. Because of this, many people feel that laser hair removal is less invasive than waxing.

Waxing vs. Lasers: Frequency

Laser hair removal has been approved as “permanent” by the FDA. This means that the follicles treated by laser removal are permanently gone. It doesn’t mean, however, that new hair won’t grow in the treated area. Waxing, on the other hand, doesn’t kill the hair follicle, but simply removes the existing hair. Most people find that waxing has to be repeated every 4-6 weeks. On average, patients find it necessary to return for laser hair removal 1-2 times a year.

Laser hair removal works better on course, dark hair, and is not recommended for fine or light hair. The greater the contrast between the color of your skin and the color of the hair being removed, the better the result will be. Many cosmetic surgeons prefer to couple laser hair removal with electrolysis, which is more beneficial for removing fine and light hairs.

Laser Liposuction Cost

Liposuction treatment has grown from an obscure and quite controversial cosmetic surgical treatment to the most accepted and most reliable cosmetic surgery procedure around the world. It has voyaged far and wide since its inception in 1974 in Rome by Dr. Giorgio Fischer and its subsequent introduction as a cosmetic procedure four years later. Liposuction today is as varied and as complicated as the areas of a person’s body that can be treated with liposuction not only to just remove excess body fat but most notably to sculpt the particular area into the preferred shape and form. This innovative use of liposuction is also known as lipo sculpting or lipo etching and the favorite tool for this is a laser tool. Laser liposuction cost can be varied and is dependent on lot of factors.

The average laser liposuction cost starts from ,500 and can be more expensive depending on who is doing the procedure and what part of the body and how much fat is going to be removed. Laser liposuction is very popular to those who can afford it since this technique boast of minimal pain and ignorable side effects commonly associated with liposuction. The use of laser energy to break down fatty cells prior to extraction by cannulas and limit the possible trauma to surrounding tissue and blood vessels, thus, minimizing if not doing away completely with bleeding, bruising and swelling post operation. Some laser liposuction methods do away with the incisions altogether and the actual liposuction with the fat deposits in the targeted area being melted away under the skin and the melted fat is naturally evacuated from the body.

]]>

The laser liposuction cost is also connected to the ability of the patient to immediately return to their natural activities with downtime often associated with indirect cost to the patient due to hours or days of working time lost when recovering from more traditional liposuction approaches. Laser liposuction offers a more non-invasive and almost no pain treatment that results in very minimal if absent recuperation period. Simply put, the liposuction patient can have a laser liposuction treatment during lunch break and then go back to work immediately afterwards.

Do bear in mind that like all surgical procedures there are certain things that might go wrong and a serious liposuction patient must consider. Laser liposuction is not as simple as it sounds and a great amount of deftness and competence is required to operate the equipment. Even a marginal error of sorts can result in very ugly damage. Laser liposuction cost is recognizably quite high but arguably it is quite efficient and effective when done by a competent and experienced cosmetic surgeon.

Information On Laser Liposuction

Body image is such a big part of culture in America anymore, and Smart Lipo, also recognized as laser-assisted liposuction, is an extremely sought after process that is for those people who want to change their bodies to what they want. This laser technology is more desirable than what one would think of as traditional liposuction, because it is not as invasive a surgical process.

There are some contrasts when it comes to laser-assisted liposuction and cannula type of liposuction. Both types of liposuction are considered elective. The laser process is considerably more pricey than the more traditional kind. Several plastic surgeons will be willing to create a payment plan to spread the cost over a given time period.

There are various views as to whether the added expenditure of the laser form is worth the results that you get when it is done. Some surgeons may use both operations together with each other to have a more desired result; the conventional liposuction along with the laser-assisted liposuction that will tighten up the skin.

SmartLipo, as would be expected, has a quicker healing time due to the fact there is no surgical slit that would require stitches and a bit of bruising. Also, the possible risk of infection is lessened with the more non-invasive process. There may be a couple of side effects with the laser-assisted liposuction however; to include discomfort, swelling and the possibility of incurring burns caused by the laser.

As with any procedure that impacts the body, make sure that you chose a certified plastic surgeon that is board sanctioned. Ask him to speak with you about the outcomes that he has had, and see if you can find anybody who has had the process, and obtain their feedback concerning the doctor and the results. This process may be addressed under a few insurance policies – but it does not meet the Medicaid application demands.

Smartlipo Laser Assisted Liposuction

Ever so often, men and women who have succeeded in losing considerable weight have ended up with ugly flab. Liposuction, a technique for suctioning surplus fatty tissue continues to be used for flab removal. A relatively new development in liposuction technology is . SmartLipo has made history by being the first laser device designed for fat cell disruption and for LaserBody Sculpting.

can effectively remove flabby skin or fat in areas of the arms, face, male breasts, neck, mons pubis or knees. Even revisions and touchups can be done with this groundbreaking laserlipolysis. Anyone wishing to undergo SmartLipo should be healthy and not excessively exceeding his/her most suitable weight (upto 25 lbs is okay). If additional treatment is required in a particular area, the patient is typically recommended to wait for a period of 4 to 6 months before proceeding with it.

The FDA approved non-invasive SmartLipo laser technology liquefies the unwanted fat, by releasing energy when entering it. The visualization of the laser’s targeting beam through the skin enables the doctor to identify the area to be treated. Selective interaction between the fat cells and laser beam incites breaking up of lipocyte and adipose cell membranes, facilitating natural removal of their oily liquid contents. This powerful laser contributes to making the treatment almost devoid of side effects. The patient is put under tumescent and local anesthesia when the procedure is in progress.

If results are desired from SmartLipo, it has to be used in combination with MIL (Minimally Invasive Liposuction). So, the operating surgeon wanting to practice SmartLipo laser assisted liposuction should be well-experienced in conventional liposuction.

Tumescent Laser Liposuction?Less Discomfort Quicker Recovery After Liposuction

Many people who are not overweight or obese have areas of extra fat on an otherwise fit body. No matter how hard we exercise and watch our diet, some areas of fat just won’t go away. These areas tend to be around the waist in men, and the tummy, hips and thighs in women. Especially after pregnancy, loose skin and tummy fat seem to persist even after extreme exercise and dieting.

Liposuction can remove these areas of extra fat in many people, and give a fresh start to a healthy diet and exercise program. However, traditional liposuction can be a painful experience and in many cases require a long recovery period, facts which dissuade many from having liposuction. Also, 20% of patients who have traditional old time liposuction have skin irregularities after the liposuction procedure.

I have been using tumescent laser liposuction with the new SlimLipo laser lipo technique for fat removal, laser body sculpting and laser liposculpture for almost a year now and I am amazed at how much better the tumescent laser liposuction technique is than the old time non-laser liposuction method. My patients have smooth tight skin after laser liposuction, and their recovery after laser lipo is much easier and less painful.

The benefit of the new tumescent laser liposuction technique is that the laser melts the fat before it is removed, making fat removal much easier with laser lipo. The tumescent technique minimizes bleeding and discomfort. The laser also tightens the skin as the fat is melted. The result is more uniform fat removal, smooth skin, less bleeding and less pain after tumescent laser liposuction. See before and after pictures of tumescent laser liposuction and mini tummy tuck below:

Tumescent laser liposuction is a new liposuction method that combines the use of tumescent solution with laser melting of fat before fat removal.

Tumescent solution is a liquid that contains an anesthetic or numbing solution and a vasoconstrictor, a medication that helps control bleeding. The tumescent solution is injected beneath the skin, into the fat to be removed, before the laser liposuction or laser lipo is started.

The tumescent solution numbs the skin area for pain control which can last up to 24 hours. The solution also prevents bleeding which reduces post laser liposuction bruising and swelling, which speeds recovery.
The tumescent solution is injected under pressure, which swells or distends the fat and makes removal easier. The distention and hydration (adding water to) of the fat also improves the effectiveness and safety of the laser treatment to dissolve the fat.
The benefits of the tumescent laser liposuction technique are:

Above: Before and 4 days after picture of tumescent laser liposuction of neck and small chin implant to correct double chin.

Tumescent laser liposuction may be done with you awake or asleep. Many areas can be treated with you awake using only the local anesthesia provided by the tumescent solution. However, the benefits of tumescence are so important that tumescent solution is also used when laser liposuction is done under general anesthesia, for control of bleeding, improved fat removal and for post operative pain management.

After your skin has been cleansed with a sterile anti-bacterial soap, the skin area to be liposuctioned is sterilely draped to prevent contamination.

]]>

Tiny punctures are made in hidden areas of the skin, and a small needle inserted beneath the skin into the fat to be removed. The tumescent solution is then injected into the fat under pressure to swell the fat and deliver the anesthetic and vasoconstrictor (prevents bleeding) solution.

After a brief waiting period until your skin is numb and the tumescent fluid has taken effect, the laser fiber is inserted through the same puncture sites and the fat is melted with the laser. The fat is liquefied into a thin liquid which is much easier to remove than fat that is removed with traditional old time liposuction.

After the fat has been liquefied, a small tube called a cannula is inserted and the liquid fat removed by suction. Because the fat has been liquefied, much smaller cannulas can be used than with traditional non-laser liposuction. This fact results in a less traumatic procedure with tiny hidden scars, very different from old time liposuction.

The laser also tightens the skin as the fat is lased. The laser heats the fibers that attach your skin to your body, and causes these fibers to shorten which pulls the skin closer to the body. Microscopic studies have shown that many more fibers, called connective tissue, are left after laser liposuction than after non-laser liposuction. I believe that this fact helps explain the improved skin tightening and smooth skin after laser liposuction.

Before and after pictures of Tumescent laser liposuction to correct deformities caused by previous old time non-laser liposuction.

Because the tumescent laser liposuction technique places numbing solution in the liposuction area, you will have very little discomfort immediately after and up to 12 hours after your laser liposuction procedure. In addition you will be given strong pain killers to manage any discomfort.

The second day you will feel discomfort in the treated areas, however in my experience, the level of discomfort is certainly much less than that experienced with traditional non-laser liposuction. By day 3 most patients are very comfortable.

You will be wearing a supportive compression garment on the treated areas which adds additional support and comfort.
You will be up and around, able to eat, walk, use the bathroom and do normal daily activities the day after your tumescent laser liposuction. I recommend that you not go to the gym or do vigorous physical activity for the first week to ten days because I want the healing process to be undisturbed during this time.

You will be active and walking from day one. However I will limit your vigorous exercise and weight lifting or aerobics for ten days.
Your garment will be changed to a light Spanks type garment after three to five days. If small sutures are used to close the small puncture sites they will be removed at day five.

When small areas like the chin or a minor tummy liposuction are done, some people return to work the next day. I do not recommend returning to work the same day-I want you to be quiet and rest the first day.

Recovery to a more normal skin appearance can take ten days to two weeks for swelling and bruising, if any, to resolve.

Your skin appearance, skin tightening and laser liposuction result will continue to improve for three to six months as the skin gradually tightens over the areas where fat has been removed. The remarkable thing about the tumescent laser liposuction technique is that the skin is much smoother after laser liposuction than after traditional old time, non-laser liposuction. I believe that the laser dissolving of the fat prior to removal results in a more uniform fat removal.

There are several lasers in use for laser liposuction. I use the SlimLipo Aspire laser liposuction system made by Palomar Medical. I have chosen this laser because the SlimLipo uses the only laser wavelength which is specifically absorbed by fat. The SlimLipo uses a 924nm (nm=nanometers, one millionth of a meter and describes the wavelength of the laser color in the visible light spectrum, which for 924nm is yellow, the color of fat) laser wavelength.

The 924nm laser wavelength used in SlimLipo dissolves or releases three to five times as much fat during lasing as do the other commonly used wavelengths. The other wavelengths used by different laser liposuction machines target water, not fat, and are less efficient and less specific at fat dissolving.

The 924nm SlimLipo also works very well in hydrated fat, meaning that fat dissolving with the laser works very well after the tumescent fluid has been injected.

I am a board certified plastic surgeon, thus I am very prejudiced that you should have your tumescent laser liposuction performed by a board certified plastic surgeon. My view is that if you are going to have surgery of any kind, you want a board certified surgeon who has been fully trained and is expert at taking care of a surgical patient. You want the safety of knowing that if something goes wrong, your doctor will have the skill, experience and training to take care of you.

Some dermatologists do liposuction and are trained in liposuction and lasers. If you wish to have a dermatologist do your laser liposuction, I recommend that you make certain that your dermatologist is board certified and has had a fellowship in dermatologic surgery.

I recommend that you visit the following links to learn more about liposuction surgery and how to check out your doctors training, experience and board certification status:

Do not be intimidated by the white coat and afraid to ask the doctor important questions. You are an educated consumer, and a good doctor will welcome the fact that you are prepared and have done your reading. I prefer to have informed patients, they always do better after surgery. Plastic surgery is no place for snap decisions or impulse buying.

In my book Save Your Face, in Chapter ten, I give details on how to choose your doctor and what questions to ask. A brief summary of important questions are:

Most importantly, trust your gut feelings during your visit with the doctor. Is the office clean and professional? Do the doctor and staff treat you in a respectful manner? Ask yourself will I be comfortable calling these people and depending on them if I have an emergency at night or on weekends? Will I be comfortable expressing my concerns or disappointment if I feel that way? If you detect any discomfort or uncertainty, you should consult another doctor.

Tumescent laser liposuction is a remarkable, revolutionary advance in liposuction and fat removal techniques. The benefits can be very significant. However, the results of liposuction, like any surgical procedure are very dependent upon the skill and expertise of your surgeon. Choose wisely and I expect that you will have a very happy result.

Commonly treated areas include the neck and upper arms, lower back, ankles, waist, stomach, male breasts, inner and outer thighs, and jowls. These minimally invasive procedures can be performed with very little downtime.

Like any procedure, SmartLipo also has its risks and side effects. Bruising and/or discomfort are likely after the procedure, which would subside more quickly than with traditional liposuction.

Body contouring demands a certain amount of artistic skill on the part of the plastic surgeon. To find experienced plastic surgeons in Chicago, make an intensive search on the web. There are online directories providing reliable information on practicing plastic surgeons in major cities in the US. Make sure that the surgeon you choose has considerable expertise and sufficient experience in providing laser liposuction and other plastic surgery procedures.

Laser liposuction would be trendiest technique to get slimmer and is likely to be particularly worthwhile

Laser liposuction, or sometimes called lipoplasty or merely lipo is really a process to eliminate extra fat from specific components in the physique. Common locations exactly where lipo surgery is carried out consist of the belly, calves, arms, back & neck.

There are a number of techniques to carry out liposuction surgery, nonetheless in its most base form a pipe manufactured from chrome steel is inserted in the area to be treated. The cannula is set up to a highly effective vacuum machine. Parts in the junk cells being literally sucked out. Immediately after the process, the surrounding components will fold into the removed components ending in weight-loss and a fitter contour.

Generally a substance is injected inside the area to become treated to loosen or liquefy the extra fat just before removal. You’ll find numerous distinct methods mentioned below. Variations exist between the quantity of liquid to be treated.

Dry liposuction treatment is the original liposuction treatment and uses no liquid whatsoever. It’s not in use right now simply because of blood loss and a greater threat for complications .
Tumescent Liposuction treatment is probably the most frequent form of liposuction today. High doses of a solution of a local anesthetic called lidocaine along with a liquid to make the blood vessels smaller are injected directly within the excess fat. The primary advantage of this technique is which is carried out under only nearby anesthesia. The down facet is the large quantity of lidocaine employed: this can result in licodaine positing if used on a significant area .

Damp liposuction procedures is exactly where a small quantity of solution is injected in to the body fat. This amount is much less than the quantity of body fat to become removed. The answer consists of a local anesthetic, saline to reduce bruising, and adrenaline to constrict blood vessels. The solution is injected to loosen the excess fat cells, that are suctioned out with the cannula. Super wet lipo surgery is really a method that uses a similar answer as with damp lipo surgery. Nonetheless larger amounts of answer are injected, concerning the exact same quantity since the quantity of fats to become removed. This method is favored for huge volume removal. Often the individual gets IV anesthesia additionally for the regional anesthetic in the answer.

Ultrasonic Assisted Laser liposuction is a method that uses tumescent fluid in combination with a special cannula. The cannula sends out ultrasound vibrations. People tiny vibrations liquefy the surrounding tissue. This method is usually utilized on additional strong or fibrous places like the upper back again. Vaser Liposuction procedures is a more modern type of technique that uses ultrasound vibrations. It has much less risks of problems in comparison with conventional Ultrasonic Assisted Lipo. Energy Assisted Liposuction procedures is another model of UAL. On this situation the cannula mechanically moves around in possibly a pulsating or rotating fashion. This helps make the procedure simpler for that surgeon, since she or he does not have to manually move the cannula as a lot.

Threat As with any surgery there is a risk of problems. The risk raises with size from the treated area along with the amount of body fat eliminated. As usually discuss your private situation with a certified doctor prior to starting treatment. Ensure that to mention any treatment you might be taking.
