Healthy bone without Footwear
Do not have a sports shoes is no longer a reason for not doing physical activity, especially running. The recent studies revealed that running barefoot is better.
Running barefoot is common in some areas in Africa. Almost 50 years ago, Olympic gold medalist Abebe Bikila won his first marathon barefoot. Meanwhile in the 1980s, the South African runner Zola Budd entering running track barefoot.
Recently, researchers found that people who run barefoot tend to land by using the ball (where the toes joined with the feet) or in feet section. In this way, runners do not shake the bones.
But, those who run with wearing shoes tends to land on the heel. Landing like this will send shock waves that hurts throughout the body.
Researchers from Harvard University and Glasgow University analyzed the running styles of the athletes, both those who run wearing shoes or bare feet.
Results showed that approximately 75 percent of runners with shoes landing on the heel. This means that runners heels hit the ground 1,000 times per mile. This creates a huge and sudden shocking pressure.
While the runner without shoes tends to land on an elastic step towards the front foot. They are more inclined towards their toes and landed with a lighter step.
These findings, help explain why many runners in the world with high endurance running very well with bare foott.
“People who run barefoot landing in a different way,” said study leader Dr Daniel Lieberman, professor of evolutionary human biology from Harvard as quoted dailymail site.
Most people, Lieberman said, thinks that running barefoot is dangerous and trigger pain. Actually, you can run barefoot on hard surfaces without feeling pain.
“All you need is a little thickening of the skin. Then, the risk of injury will be less than running with shoes,” explained Lieberman.
