Don’t Let Your Kids Become Passive Smokers!
A recent study published by the British Lancet medical journal said, 1 percent of deaths in worldwide caused by secondhand smoke. Based on data collected from 2004 and covers 192 countries, there are about 600,000 passive smokers die each year. The death rate also should be coupled with about 5.1 million people worldwide who die each year due to active smokers.
According to researchers from a study financed by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare and the Bloomberg Philanthropies, the passive smoking causes about 379,000 deaths due to heart disease, 165,000 deaths due to respiratory disease, 36,900 deaths due to asthma, and 21,400 deaths due to lung cancer in a year .
This study may help us to understand better and care about the impact and the victims of smokers. Sometimes parents often keep their children in order to avoid dangerous things like leaving them at the end of the road itself, but ironically, smoking in front of their children is considered not dangerous for them.
It has been recorded about 40% of children and 30% of women and men who do not smoke but inhale cigarette smoke on a regular basis. As a result, children whose parents smoke have a higher risk of sudden infant death syndrome, ear infections, pneumonia, bronchitis, and asthma. Even their lungs grow more slowly when compared with the lungs of children whose parents do not smoke.
In many countries it has enforced the rules of no smoking in public places with a very large fines. But it takes more effort than that to stop the active smokers not to smoke in public places, because in the end they will still smoke in homes, cars, and other places that still endanger others. Hence, do not underestimate the dangers of smoking in front of people you care about, let alone your own child, because the consequences would be fatal to their health.
